Mark Brueggeman

Artist Bio

Mark Brueggeman

Statement on Monoprints:The Second Suite is a series of monoprints, 24 in all; each is 22x26 inches. In 2011, Bob Erickson invited me to participate as a guest artist at Monoprint 2011 at UWSP. Within the framework of working with over a dozen other artists, I was able to execute the monoprint series on the D Minor Suite for Solo Cello. Following this monoprint series, I began a series of two-plate intaglios on the Bach G major Suite in an edition of 20 suites of 6 prints each. Finding the expression in a printmaking process a clear expression of my understanding of the cello suites, I have since executed a series of drawings for a series of lithos on the second suite.

Statement on Letterpress:I have always enjoyed the look of text incorporated into drawings and paintings. I have had the great good fortune to work with letterpress artist Caren Heft and began a series of embellished poems in letterpress. I have developed imagery combined with letterpress text using poetry by Wallace Stevens and W. B. Yeats. I have published them as multiple page broadsides. My current exploration is poetry by L. E. Hunt which is getting expression as broadsides and bound books
