Lenny Nagler

    Artist Statement & Bio

    Lenny Nagler

    Process:

I use oils on a black surface( I have also tried and used blue, brown, red). I paint on stretched canvas, canvas panels, and hardboard. I use brush, palette knife and a combination.

    Artist Bio:

I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with BS in broad field social studies and later a Master degree. I taught at the High School level Social Studies for thirteen years and at the Middle School level for twenty years. When I neared retirement I return to painting. I started a local art shows (Shawno, Appleton etc. As I grew in painting skill I expand my shows in number (max of 14) and exposure(Wisconsin,Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, Kentcky, Illinois).

Current show schedule: Stevens Point, Spring Green, Agora (Fitchberg/Madison), Art Fair off the Square Winter Madison.

Artist Statement:  I love to paint. I get satisfaction from the challenge in creation of a painting. Subject, composition, colors, style etc. I try different approaches and learn from successes and failures

(I am a self-taught artist). I was always interested in art and was greatly influenced by two great art teachers in High School.

I paint in a variety of styles, Fauve, impressionism, Nagler-tyle.

Lenny, a self-taught painter, has had an interest in art since childhood.  He has been painting and exhibiting full time for more than a decade.  Lenny’s experimentation with different styles and media create paintings with his own distinctive style.  His subject matter might rightfully be described as eclectic, including landscapes (real and imaginary), "portraits" (mostly imaginary-some real), still lifes, and anything that strikes a cord in his artistic sense.  Lenny's painting technique varies from brush to palette knife, but most frequently consists of oil painted forward on a colored background.

    Guest artist at Studio 5
