Artist Bio

Curtis Archer

I became interested in art in high school through a teacher who urged me to pursue art in college. I majored in art education at the University of Northern Iowa. After a brief time in teaching, I moved into the broader field of interior design, in mybusiness, Window Art, I have created artistic wrought iron drapery hardware. Over the years my focus has changed to creating three-dimensional fine art.

The current direction of my work centers around three areas. Abstract steel kinetic pieces, larger aluminum sculpture and metal three-dimensional paintings with poured resin.

My work is currently being shown at Edgewood Orchard Gallery in Door County Wisconsin and L’attitude Gallery in Boston MA. I had a one-man show for the summer of 2016 at the Cedarburg Art Museum in Wisconsin. I have shown work in many art festivals in Tennessee, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. I have commercial work in Hospitals and Office Buildings.

As to personal philosophy, I seek to demonstrate the beauty and variety of creation. Art should speak. It should engage its viewer. I feel that I am in harmony with my creator when I communicate good design. Working with metal demands total commitment of body and spirit.I have not lost the romance of controlling molten metal at temperatures in excess of 2400 degrees and at the same time shaping the outcome.

I am renovating a 110-year-old barn for my studio. If that doesn’t kill me, you will find me there most days
